The city was founded by the Phoenicians, who called it Mahanat, which is translated as "camp". And Roger II, a descendant of Guiscard, decided to make Palermo a capital of the Sicilian kingdom. Later, it was won by the French. Only in 1860, famous Garibaldi returned Sicily to the fold of Italy.

Palermo suffered greatly during World War II, especially the downtown. The historical center of the city is continued to recover until now, because it is very big - the second largest after Genoa.
